How does the numerology calculator work?
The calculator turns two things into numbers: the date you were born and the full name on your birth certificate. It adds digits until a single digit is left, which numerologists call reducing. The only exceptions are 11, 22 and 33, the master numbers, which are kept as they are. Every step is shown on screen so you can check the sums yourself.
It uses the Pythagorean letter chart (A=1 to I=9, J=1 to R=9, S=1 to Z=8), and Y always counts as a consonant. Accented letters count as their base letter (É as E). If you would rather use the Chaldean chart, which assigns the values 1 to 8 by sound, the name numerology calculator has a switch for it.
What do the six numbers mean?
- Life path: month, day and year are each reduced on their own, then added and reduced again. This is the main theme of your life.
- Expression (destiny): the total of every letter in your full birth name. It describes your natural talents.
- Soul urge (heart's desire): the vowels A, E, I, O and U only. It points to what you want most.
- Personality: the consonants only. It shows how others tend to see you.
- Birthday number: the day you were born, reduced, with 11 and 22 kept.
- Personal year: your birth month and day plus the current year, each reduced, added and reduced to a single digit. It sets the tone of the year you are in.
Worked example: Ada Lovelace, born July 15, 1985
Here is a full chart for a made-up person, using the Pythagorean chart.
Life path. July = 7. Day 15 = 1 + 5 = 6. Year 1985 = 1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 23, then 2 + 3 = 5. Add them: 7 + 6 + 5 = 18, and 1 + 8 = 9.
Expression. ADA = 1 + 4 + 1 = 6. LOVELACE = 3 + 6 + 4 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 5 = 30. The total is 36, and 3 + 6 = 9.
Soul urge. The vowels are A, A, O, E, A, E: 1 + 1 + 6 + 5 + 1 + 5 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. Because the total passed through 19, this number also carries karmic debt 19.
Personality. The consonants are D, L, V, L, C: 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 3 = 17, and 1 + 7 = 8.
Birthday. 15 = 1 + 5 = 6.
Personal year for 2026 (worked example). Month 7, day 15 reduced to 6, and 2026 = 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. Add them: 7 + 6 + 1 = 14, and 1 + 4 = 5.
So Ada's chart reads: life path 9, expression 9, soul urge 1, personality 8, birthday 6 and a personal 5 year. A double 9 points strongly to compassion and wide horizons, while the 1 underneath suggests a private wish to stand on her own feet.
How should you read your results?
Start with your life path and expression numbers, since they carry the most weight. Then look at how the others agree or pull against them. A chart full of the same number tells a focused story; a mixed chart describes someone who holds several sides at once.
Treat the meanings as prompts for reflection, not as fixed facts about you. For one number in depth, try the life path number calculator or the name numerology calculator, and read about numerology and its traditions.

Questions
Which name should I use in a numerology calculator?
Most numerologists use your full name as it appears on your birth certificate, including middle names. You can also try your current name to compare how it reads.
Why do numerology calculators give different results?
They may use different letter charts, count Y as a vowel, or add the birth date digits in one line instead of reducing month, day and year separately. This calculator shows every step so you can see which method it uses.
What if I get 11, 22 or 33?
Those are master numbers and are kept instead of being reduced. They are read as more intense forms of 2, 4 and 6.
Is my data saved?
No. The arithmetic runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us or stored.
