The positions of this spread
- Why it ended: The main reason the relationship came apart, as the cards see it.
- How you feel now: Your honest feelings today, including the ones you may not say out loud.
- How they feel now: How the other person may be feeling, read as a possibility to reflect on and not as fact.
- What would need to change: What would have to be different for a return to be healthy for both of you.
- Where it is heading: The likely direction if things carry on as they are now.
When to use the reconciliation spread
Use it after a breakup when your thoughts keep going back to the other person, when an ex gets in touch and you are not sure how to reply, or after a falling out with a partner that left things unclear. It also works when you do not want them back but still need closure and want to understand what happened.
Will they come back? An honest answer
Most people arrive at this spread with that one question. The truthful answer is that no deck can know. The cards cannot read another person's mind or override their choices, and position 3 reflects your own guesses about them as much as anything else. What the spread can do is help you see whether going back would be good for you, and what would have to change first.
If the relationship involved fear, control, cruelty or any kind of abuse, a reading is not the right tool. Put your safety first and reach out to someone you trust or a local support line.
How to read it
- Compare cards 1 and 4. If what would need to change is the same thing that ended it, the real question is simple: has that changed?
- Hold card 3 lightly. Notice how you feel as you read it. Hope or fear about that card often tells you more about your own heart than about theirs.
- Card 5 is a direction, not destiny. A warm card such as the Six of Cups or the Two of Cups suggests a door that is open, which still needs both people to walk through it. The Eight of Cups or the Three of Swords often points to moving on as the healthier path.
- Check card 2 against card 1. If your longing is much stronger than the reasons it ended, ask whether you miss this person or the feeling of being with someone.
- Write a letter you will not send. Put it in your journal next to the cards. It is often where the clearest answer shows up.

Questions
Can tarot tell me if my ex will come back?
No. The cards cannot read another person's mind or decide their choices. They can help you reflect on what happened, what you want and whether a return would be healthy for you.
How many cards are in a reconciliation tarot spread?
This one uses five: why it ended, how you feel, how they may feel, what would need to change and where it is heading.
Which tarot cards suggest reconciliation?
Judgement, the Six of Cups and the Two of Cups are traditionally linked with reunions and second chances. Even then, a card is an invitation to talk honestly, not a promise.
Should I get back together with my ex?
Only you can decide. If you were not safe in the relationship, the answer from any reading should be to put your safety first.
