Manglik Dosha Calculator

Manglik dosha (Mangal dosha or Kuja dosha) is a Vedic astrology rule about the house Mars occupies in a birth chart. Enter your birth details to see where Mars falls counted from your lagna, Moon and Venus, which versions of the rule apply, and the cancellations different schools accept.

What the rule says

In the most common form, a chart is called Manglik when Mars (Mangal) is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the sidereal chart. Some schools leave out the 2nd house, some the 1st, and many count the houses not only from the lagna (ascendant) but also from the Moon and from Venus, calling the result stronger when Mars qualifies from more than one.

The rule is used mainly in matching charts for marriage. It is a tradition, not a tested finding about marriages. We show the calculation openly so you can see exactly which rule produces which answer.

Why so many people are Manglik

Six houses out of twelve qualify. Counted from the lagna alone, Mars therefore lands in a Manglik house in roughly half of all charts. Counted from the lagna, the Moon and Venus together, far more than half of charts qualify under at least one of the three. A label that applies to most people cannot single anyone out, which is worth keeping in mind if the word has caused worry.

How the calculator works, with an example

The calculator draws your sidereal chart with the Lahiri ayanamsa and whole sign houses, as in the kundli calculator, then counts the house of Mars from three starting points.

Example: Libra lagna, Moon in Capricorn, Venus in Scorpio, and Mars in Aries. From the lagna, Aries is the 7th sign, so Mars is in the 7th house: Manglik by the lagna rule. From the Moon in Capricorn, Aries is the 4th house: also Manglik. From Venus in Scorpio, Aries is the 6th house: not Manglik from Venus. The result shows all three, plus which cancellation rules apply. One commonly cited cancellation is Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio), which applies here, so several schools would cancel the dosha in this chart.

Cancellations differ between schools

Classical and modern texts list many conditions that cancel or reduce Manglik dosha, and they do not agree. Frequently cited ones include Mars in its own sign or in its exaltation sign (Capricorn), Mars aspected by or joined with Jupiter, certain lagnas for certain houses, and both partners being Manglik. Many families also say the effect weakens with age. The calculator lists the common cancellations that your chart meets and names them, rather than giving a single yes or no, because there is no single agreed rule.

What we do not do

We do not predict anything about marriage, partners, health or lifespan, and we do not recommend or sell remedies. If the result matters to you or your family, the honest summary is: many charts are Manglik by some rule, many of those are cancelled by another, and the tradition itself is debated among astrologers. For a Western view of two charts together, see the synastry chart; for your Mars sign in the Western zodiac, see its calculator.

Questions

Am I Manglik?

Enter your birth date, time and place above. The calculator shows the house of Mars from your lagna, Moon and Venus and says which versions of the rule call your chart Manglik and which cancellations apply.

What is Manglik dosha?

A Vedic astrology rule that calls a chart Manglik when Mars is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. It is mainly used in matching charts for marriage, and schools differ on the details.

How common is Manglik dosha?

Very common. By the six-house rule from the lagna alone, roughly half of all charts qualify, and more when the Moon and Venus are also used.

Can Manglik dosha be cancelled?

Many schools accept cancellations, such as Mars in its own or exaltation sign, Jupiter's influence on Mars, or both partners being Manglik. They do not all agree, so the calculator names each one your chart meets.

Do I need my birth time?

Yes, for the rule from the lagna, because the lagna changes about every two hours. The checks from the Moon and Venus are usually fine with a birth date, unless the Moon changed sign that day.
